Back in September, Joy Sunday crossed “see the Louvre” off her bucket list after a trip to Paris with Lancôme to celebrate a partnership between the French beauty brand and the iconic museum.

She shared pics from the glamorous event on her Instagram where she’s posing in front of the glass pyramid wearing a hot pink dress with a matching lip color along with the caption, “I’ll never forget my first visit to the @museelouvre was with @lancomeofficial.”

Now, the Wednesday actress (she plays the scene-stealing Bianca Barclay on the hit Netflix series) is accomplishing another goal along with the cosmetics giant.

Lancôme announced today that they have appointed Sunday, 27, as the new Global Ambassador for the brand. She joins a roster of Lancôme faces including Julia Roberts, Amanda Seyfried, Zendaya and Emma Chamberlain.

“I imploded,” Sunday tells PEOPLE of her reaction to learning that Lancôme wanted to work with her. “I was jumping up and down and screaming.”

Her debut campaign will be for Lancôme’s new L’absolu Rouge Intimatte Blushing Nudes line. The eight new shades are designed to be universally-flattering and have a petal-shaped bullet so the formula can glide across lips. (Sunday’s favorite shade is 460, which is aptly named “Burst of Joy.”)

“Everyone was so happy to have me there,” Sunday recalls of shooting the campaign. “I remember after one take everyone broke out in applause and I couldn’t believe how warm and excited everyone was. It gave me a boost to let me know that I was in the right place with people who wanted me, Joy, there and since then, I’ve really wanted to make them proud.”

She also had one of her all-time favorite style moments on set with the white suit she got to wear. “It made me feel on top of the world. It really had me in my element.”

Sunday is already enjoying the perks of her new gig, especially the influx of products. Her must-haves include Comfort Hand Cream and L'absolu Rouge Lip Balm. I have to keep them both on deck, they’re my essentials and I’m devastated if I leave the house without them.”

It’s no surprise that the Nigerian-American actress caught the eye of Lancôme. In addition to captivating audiences with her roles on Wednesday, Dear White People and Bad Hair, Sunday has a bold approach to beauty that makes her stand out on the red carpet, something she attributes to growing up in New York City.

“New York shares a Parisian sense of beauty in that it’s very individual and true to self. I grew up having to learn beauty for myself and I have since carried that through,” she says. “I am always going to look inward when I want to craft a look. I will always want to tell a story. New York has definitely given me that confidence in myself and what I want to say,” she says.

And when it comes to feeling her best for a big event, Sunday says it’s all about the makeup. “When I have my face fully beat, I feel like I can walk in any pair of heels. Having my makeup set is going to pull the look together. That, and a snatched waist.”

She did just that with a cat eye and wine lip for the party in her honor in New York City Wednesday night, hosted by Lancôme and InStyle. Taking place at the Park Lane Hotel, Sunday was joined by fellow ambassadors Amanda Seyfried and Isabella Rossellini, as well as celebrity pals including Busy Philipps, Avantika and Odelya Halevi.

Sunday, wearing a strapless purple asymmetric top with black pants, mingled with friends and influencers and gave an heartfelt toast after being introduced as the new face of the brand. She cried and thanked Seyfried and Rossellini, and shared the moment with her family, who cheered her on through happy tears during her exciting moment.

On Monday, she will make her first red carpet appearance as a Lancôme global ambassador at the 2023 Emmy Awards. And while Sunday hasn’t nailed down the exact look she’ll be going for, fans can expect her to deliver something special. “I am excited to truly make a statement. My Emmy’s debut is going to be monumental.”
