K.J. Apa Reteaming With Gulfstream Pictures On Romantic Dramedy ‘Falling’

EXCLUSIVE: K.J. Apa (Riverdale) has entered production in the UK on Falling, a new romantic comedy-drama from Gulfstream Pictures.

The project marks Apa’s third with Gulfstream, on the heels of the motorcycle racing pic One Fast Move, which premieres on Prime Video August 8, and the rom-com The Last Summer for Netflix.

Written and directed by Colin Krisel and James Krisel (Last Moment of Clarity), Falling centers on Jack (Apa), who while quick-witted, charming, and avoidant, finally risks opening his heart when he starts dating Jillian. He never expected, though, that his best friend Johnny would fall for her, too.

Gulfstream is producing and fully financing in association with Luber Roklin Entertainment, having previously teamed with the company to produce One Fast Move. Producers include Mike Karz and Bill Bindley of Gulfstream Pictures, Lena Roklin and Matt Luber of Luber Roklin, and Piers Tempest of Tempo Productions. Apa, Tom Salentine, Dakota Rosen and Mary Vernieu are serving as executive producers.

“We are thrilled to be making our third film with KJ, who has grown alongside us in our coming-of-age film “The Last Summer,” to a fearless motorcycle racer in “One Fast Move,” to a charming English attorney in “Falling,”” said a spokesperson for Gulfstream Pictures in a statement to Deadline. “We are also excited to be working with the Krisel brothers, a fresh writing-directing team whom we expect will be original voices in the independent film world in no time.”

A New Zealand actor best known for starring as Archie on The CW’s Riverdale, Apa has also previously been seen in films like The Hate U Give and I Still Believe.

Colin and James Krisel previously made their feature debut as co-writers and directors of Last Moment of Clarity, a neo-noir thriller starring Samara Weaving which Lionsgate released in 2020.

Founded by Karz and Bindley in 2013, Gulfstream Pictures has also produced titles including the Adam Sandler-Drew Barrymore comedy Blended, Garry Marshall’s Mother’s Day, and the Netflix YA rom-com The Last Summer, among others. In the animation space, the company’s projects include The Nut Job and its sequel, as well as Netflix’s Green Eggs and Ham.

Apa is represented by UTA, Luber Roklin Entertainment, Mandy Jacobsen, Red 11Management, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. The Krisel Brothers are repped by Luber Roklin Entertainment and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols.
