Kedah MB all smiles over RM15 million development fund from Putrajaya

Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah was all smiles on his first day as Kedah menteri besar after the prime minister approved a RM15 million special allocation to improve facilities in the Kuala Muda district, The Star reported. This will enable the construction of a commercial complex for petty traders to house the many roadside shacks selling wild crabs, mud crabs, jungle fruits and a sweet drink made from the sap of palm flower clusters (nira nipah). The new Kedah MB said this would not only improve the lives of traders but would also be more convenient for visitors. The daily reported that the prime minister had also praised Ahmad Bashah, saying he had every confidence in him. "It looks like he has passed his first test by giving a good speech as your MB. I have confidence in him and am happy to say that the federal government will give him full cooperation," Najib was quoted saying at the launch of the Urban Transformation Centre in Ukir Square. The prime minister also said Kedah needed a good relationship with Putrajaya to enable it to get much-needed funds for development. "Since he has boldly asked me for this, I don’t want to say no and make him sleepless. So, I hereby approve it," Najib said. – February 6, 2016.
