Keppel Land officially opens i12 Katong after nearly 2 years of renovation

SINGAPORE — After closing for renovations for nearly two years since the start of the pandemic, Keppel Land’s wholly-owned retail mall i12 Katong officially opened on Thursday (23 June).

The revamped mall, located at the intersection of East Coast Road and Joo Chiat Road, comprises six levels of retail and lifestyle shops along with two basement levels for parking.

The official opening ceremony was attended by Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng and Keppel Corporation chief executive officer Loh Chin Hua, who is also chairman of Keppel Land.

Some tenants of the new i12 Katong include climbing gym chain Climb Central, and dog daycare and club Mr Woofles. The mall is also collaborating with Willing Hearts, a charity that operates a volunteer-run soup kitchen, on a food collection initiative where the public canx donate non-perishable food items via collection boxes in the mall. The top floor of the mall also features a vertical farm growing vegetables such as lettuce, kale, mint and basil.

These vegetables will be donated to Willing Hearts.

i12 Katong closed for renovation works on 1 March 2020, around a month before Singapore’s partial lockdown kicked in. It reopened to shoppers progressively from 23 December last year.

A unit of Keppel Corporation's property arm paid about S$56.6 million to buy the remaining shares that it did not own in the property in 2018.

Branding itself as a “smart mall” which is “5G-enabled”, the new i12 Katong includes Keppel’s centralised kitchen Bistro Bytes, through which diners can order their food at kiosks or through the Keppel mobile application for pick up at automated lockers.

The mall also features a medical co-working space for healthcare professionals, known as Core Clinic, launched by Aurum Land’s co-working platform Core Collective.

Sustainability will also be a key feature of the revamped i12 Katong. For instance, it will have a food digester to break down food waste, which will be converted into compost or liquid waste. Apart from that, i12 Katong has a waste recycling system and electric vehicle chargers.
