Kieran Culkin Wins Golden Globe for 'Succession', Calls It a "Nightmare"
In a category filled with Succession stars for Best Actor in a drama, it was Roman Roy, a.k.a. Kieran Culkin, who triumphed. It was his fifth Golden Globe nomination and first win.
When his name was announced, and Culkin got up on stage, he immediately exclaimed it was a "nightmare" everyone was standing up and clapping for him, burped, and then spoke about indigestion.
"Sorry, burping, indigestion," he said. "I didn't need to say that. Otherwise, this is a nice moment for me. I was—[laughing] I've blown it already, Jazz, you were right. She said, just say thanks and leave. You were right!" (He's referring to his wife, Jazz Charton.)
Culkin then continues his speech, "I was nominated for a Golden Globe like 20 years ago. And when that moment passed, I sorta remember thinking, I'm never gonna be back in this room again and which was fine, whatever. Thanks to Succession, I've been in here a couple of times. It's nice, but I sort of accepted I was never gonna be on stage. So this is a nice moment, suck it Pedro! Sorry! [Laughs] Mine."
He then got to thank yous: "Really quickly, I'd just like to thank everybody in Succession, Jesse [Armstrong], writers, an amazing cast. Everybody that showed up, that believed in this thing and it was very cool. Like this isn't mine, this is one for the team."
Culkin ended by thanking his manager, his wife, Jazz, "for putting up with this and all the sh*t that comes with it," and his "wonderful" mom, saying, "Mom, thank you so much for doing everything for us. Okay, that's it, bye!"
