Kylie Jenner is no stranger to a daring and bold hairdo—but the beauty mogul has really outdone herself this time. Debuting a curly blonde bob on her Instagram earlier this week, Jenner has seemingly ditched her long espresso locks.

A clear nod to the iconic Marilyn Monroe, the platinum blonde ‘do stops right at Jenner’s cheekbone, and was styled into ringlets for an old-school feel. “This vintage-influenced styling can be executed on most bobs, although we recommend asking for some loose layers on a chin length cut to create the best version of the style,” says Blue Funes Beauty Founder and Stylist, Clara Purvis.

The unexpected selfies featured a super sharp winged liner and was accompanied with a caption that read, “Did someone say they missed king kylie.” If you’ve been following the Kardashians long enough, you know Kylie was changing her style every other week during this era, and each style was as stunning as the last—this ‘do included.

Kylie isn’t the only one taking inspiration from Monroe, though. Gigi Hadid recently wore her hair in similar curls for the Met Gala red carpet, and Kylie’s very own sister, Kendall Jenner, rocked a bleach blonde ‘do for Halloween. How can you get the look, you ask? We talked with expert stylists to learn everything you need to know about channeling your inner Marilyn Monroe. Read on below!

What to Ask Your Stylist For

First, let’s chat length. "When considering getting this cut, make sure you pick the exact length [you want] as it can range based on where you'd like your hair to fall and how you plan on styling it on an everyday basis,” says celebrity hairstylist Laura Polko. Try asking your stylist for a clavicut, which is the modern style for this blunt ‘do that falls around the clavicle—a.k.a. collarbone—giving a shoulder length look. And of course, the platinum blonde is a must!

Pro tip: hair stylist and Joico educator Olivia Thompson says to tell your stylist you want this look to “last all night long” as a buzzword to use a smaller curling iron when styling for tighter ringlets and longer lasting power.

How to Style at Home

To achieve a vintage look, you need to use some vintage techniques. “This flirty look is achieved by curling the hair in smaller sections with a 1 inch curling iron, and pinning the curls with pin curl clips to allow them to set properly,” says Purvis. Be sure to use a heat protectant such as Authentic Beauty Concept Blow Dry Primer ($28) before styling your curls to protect against damage and create a perfect base for your ‘do.

Once the curls have cooled a bit, you can run a wide tooth comb through the hair to make it feel more tousled. If you prefer, you can use your fingers for a quick restyling as well. This will give the hair that sultry, perfectly-disheveled look Monroe was known for.

Finish the style off with a pomade to give the tendrils a light matte hold and to calm any frizz. Spray it with a medium hold hairspray—we love R+Co BLEU Featherlight Hairspray ($46)—to set it and viola! You’re Kylie’s new twin.
