It's summer in Cousins Beach — but is Kyra Sedgwick heading back to the beach house?

The actress, 58, joined The Summer I Turned Pretty in season 2 as Aunt Julia — mom to Skye (Elsie Fisher) and aunt to Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) — a major antagonist as she was keen on selling Susannah's (Rachel Blanchard) beloved beach house.

Production on season 3 is currently underway, and at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of her new film, Bad Shabbos, Sedgwick revealed the fate of her character.

"I'm not in season 3," she tells PEOPLE. "No, no, no. Spoiler alert."

Sedgwick's confirmation that she won't be returning raises the question of whether Fisher, who played her onscreen child, will return, which remains unconfirmed.

The rest of the core cast, though, including Briney, Casalegno, Lola Tung (Belly), Sean Kauffman (Steven) and Rain Spencer (Taylor), are confirmed to return — and teased fans in May as they announced that season 3 won't premiere until next summer.

"See you Summer 2025!" Tung, 21, said in the video, posted on May 14 to the series' Instagram account, as she and her castmates played volleyball on the beach.

"We're officially rolling on #TheSummerITurnedPretty season 3. 11 episodes coming your way," read the caption. "See you in Cousins in 2025 🫶🏻."

In February, Casalegno, 24, said that the cast "always have so much fun" filming the show, which premiered in 2022, and they were "excited to get back together."

"I think everyone is excited for season 3," he told Entertainment Tonight. "To finish the story — at least what Jenny's vision is — I think that'll be super fun."

The third season will likely follow the pattern of the first and second and tell the story of the third book in Jenny Han's trilogy, We'll Always Have Summer, which takes place two years after the events of the second book, It's Not Summer Without You.

Han has said, though, that she "went into the show with an open mind" about how she might be able to "explore new stories" while still staying true to the trilogy's original plotline.

“To me, the fun of the show is to watch it and be able to experience it as the story is meant to be told, which is where you're not sure of the ending,” she told PEOPLE following the season 2 finale. “It's kind of the pain and the pleasure of storytelling is when I go to the movies, I don't want to know the ending. I really want to be surprised and I want to be on that journey, even though it does cause me anxiety as I'm watching. So I know that it can make the fans crazy, but I'm really always trying to preserve their experience and for them to have the best possible experience as the audience.”
