JD Gaming (JDG) have advanced to the semifinals of the 2022 League of Legends World Championship after sweeping Rogue 3-0 in the quarterfinals on Friday (21 October).

JDG entered Worlds 2022 as the first seed of the League of Legends Professional League (LPL).

The team quickly established their dominance, earning the first seed of Group B after finishing 5-1 and defeating South Korean third seed DWG KIA in a tiebreaker.

Rogue were also a team that unexpectedly took the League of Legends European Championship (LEC) first seed into Worlds. The team surprised fans during the Group Stage when they swept Group C in the first round.

However, the team lost two consecutive times in the second round of and finished 4-2, where they lost against DRX in the tiebreaker.

How JDG swept aside Rogue

In game one, JDG’s Seo "Kanavi" Jin-hyeok wisely rotated through the map and invaded Rogue’s jungle, setting back Kim "Malrang" Geun-seong.

Rogue, on the other hand, tried to set up the bottom lane for success, picking up the first two dragons and kills that allowed them to stay in the game.

However, Kanavi’s Graves continued to scale ahead of the rest, easily becoming a problem for the European team.

With Bai "369" Jia-Hao and Zeng "Yagao" Qi disrupting Rogue’s aggression, JDG continued to siege through their opponents' turrets and eventually picked up the Baron.

After a 29-minute encounter, JDG destroyed Rogue’s base with a 12-6 kill lead.

JDG focused on setting back Rogue’s bot lane in the second game. With most of their gold on Wang "Hope" Jie’s Aphelios pick, JDG widened their gold advantage and suffocated Rogue throughout the map.

With Rogue unable to find ways to fight back, JDG easily took down all of their turrets. JDG won game two after 30 minutes and with a 10-6 kill lead, taking their team to matchpoint.

Rogue looked to mount a comeback in game three, with bot lane duo Markos "Comp" Stamkopoulos and Adrian "Trymbi" Trybus harassing Hope and Lou "Missing" Yun-Feng in the laning phase.

Comp’s Kalista continued to be a problem for the LPL champions, carrying in teamfights and executing ganks in the mid and bot lane.

However, JDG continued to deny the Rift Herald from the LEC champions, allowing them to open up the map and break down Rogue’s turrets.

JDG then shut down Comp in the mid lane, stopping Rogue from stacking Dragons and preventing them from taking Dragon Soul.

With control slipping out of Rogue’s hands, JDG continued to push mid and deny their European opponents of map vision.

Rogue tried to find small wins and take back control, with Emil "Larssen" Larsson catching 369 in the mid lane to allow Rogue another drake. But JDG immediately bounced back and took down most of Rogue in the Baron pit despite Larssen successfully slowing down the Chinese team.

After a tense fight in the mid lane, JDG barreled down Rogue’s base, finally securing the 3-0 series sweep after 32 minutes and with a 14-10 kill lead.

Meanwhile, Rogue bow out of Worlds 2022 in 5th-8th place, taking home US$100,125 in consolation.

While the LEC champions have been eliminated, they definitely had a strong showing throughout the competition.
