Lee Hsien Yang, who has been embroiled in a high-profile feud with his brother Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, is reportedly in Hong Kong.

Online publication HK01 reported that Hsien Yang and his wife Suet Fern landed at Hong Kong International Airport on Sunday afternoon (25 June). At around 2.50pm, the couple emerged from customs by themselves but were not greeted by anyone.

Asked by reporters what he was doing in the territory, Hsien Yang replied that he was there to see friends, but would not comment on the ongoing Lee family feud. Asked when he intended to leave Hong Kong, he replied, “None of your business.”

The Lee family feud erupted on 14 June when Hsien Yang and his sister Wei Ling issued a public statement denouncing their elder brother. “We feel big brother omnipresent. We fear the use of the organs of state against us and Hsien Yang’s wife, Suet Fern. The situation is such that Hsien Yang feels compelled to leave Singapore,” said the siblings, who added that Hsien Yang would be leaving “for the foreseeable future”.

PM Lee denied his siblings’ allegations on the same day. On 15 June, PM Lee said that his father’s last will was made under “deeply troubling circumstances” in his summary of statutory declarations. PM Lee will issue a Ministerial Statement to address the issues arising from the feud at the next sitting of Parliament on 3 July.

In an interview with Yahoo Singapore on 14 June, when asked to elaborate on why he feared for his safety, Hsien Yang said that some of his friends had suffered “serious repercussions”. The father of three added that he had not yet decided where he would go.

Yahoo Singapore has reached out to Lee Hsien Yang for comment.
