While many might lament the inevitability of ageing, local actress Carrie Wong is happy to hit the milestone of 30. She celebrated her birthday on 1 Jan, and is stepping into a new chapter of her life.

In a recent interview with Lianhe Zaobao, Wong said her birthday celebration was a humble affair like always, and she spent it with friends and family, with no big parties.

The only party she had, was a celebration on 31 Dec, 2023, with friends like Chantalle Ng and Tay Ying. The venue wasn’t revealed, but from Instagram photos, it was at a hotel room with a view of the Marina Bay area.

'Happy turning 30'

Of turning 30, Wong said, “When I was 20, I was ignorant, didn’t really understand a lot of things, and experienced ups and downs. Now I know myself better, and am more capable than when I was 20. In fact, I am happy turning 30."

Despite everything she has gone through in the last 30 years, good and bad, Wong said she “won’t change a single thing”.

“I think my life has been fulfilling, but the next 10 years has to be more fulfilling,” she said. As she spent her 20s devoted to her work, moving forward, she hopes to take some time out of her busy schedule to “see the world, spend time with my family and my beloved dog”.

Owning her dream house and future aspirations

Wong has also set a goal of owning a house so she can have a space to herself. Not surprising, considering many of her peers have already bought their own houses.

“It’s in the works but I haven’t found the one I like yet,” she said to the Chinese daily. “The design of my dream house should be warm and cosy, preferably a high-floor unit with floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony.”

When asked what she would like to tell her 20-year-old self, she replied, “I would like to thank the 20-year-old me for being so courageous. When I was 20, I was a person who didn't think too much and did things based on intuition. I think I was quite brave. Whenever I fell, I got up again, and it's no big deal.

“It’s been hard on you! I’ll live a healthier life in my 30s and I hope to have my own kids by the time I’m 40.”
