'We Are Looking At Creating A Rocket Force': CDS General Bipin Rawat

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat expressed that India is pursuing developing a rocket force and stressed upon the necessity of extensively using niche technologies to tackle several challenges on the national security front.

General Rawat even referred to Pakistan as a ‘proxy of China’ and mentioned that it will carry on with its ‘proxy war’ in Jammu and Kashmir whilst also trying to stir up trouble in Punjab and certain other parts of the country.

Elaborating on the steps taken to strengthen the country’s air power, the army officer quipped, “We are looking at creating a rocket force.” However, he did not divulge any further details on this statement, Press Trust of India (PTI) reports.

With regards to the theaterisation program of the armed forces, General Rawat further revealed that there have been plans to set up one theatre command each for the western and the northern borders.

“As far as our northern adversary is concerned, since we have unsettled borders with them and they have shown aggression on the east coast, on the South China Sea with nations in that area, are they (China) likely to show aggression on our northern borders?,” he was quoted in the aforementioned report.

The CDS added, “Whether it happens in the form of direct aggression or through use of technology, we have to be prepared. This preparation can only happen if we work together.”

General Rawat asserted that integration amongst the armed forces is integral from the perspective of facing future security challenges.
