It's official: M Ravi will not be joining the Reform Party (RP).

In a media statement on Wednesday (12 August), Ravi said his legal practice would remain his first priority. “It is therefore prudent and crucial that I continue to maintain my focus on this and serve my clients diligently when I resume my legal  practice shortly. It is here that my focus and service must lie.”

During a walkabout at Ang Mo Kio GRC on on Monday, Ravi told Yahoo Singapore that he was considering joining RP but had not made a decision. He had earlier contemplated running as an independent candidate in the ward.

RP chief Kenneth Jeyaretnam also posted on Facebook that Ravi had not submitted any application for membership with the party and that media reports suggesting that Ravi might join the party were speculative.

In February this year, Ravi was suspended from law practice by the Law Society for medical reasons. The human rights lawyer has taken on high-profile clients such as the convicted drug trafficker Yong Vui Kong and blogger Roy Ngerng.
