Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond Fallout preview card - Overrun the wasteland with the power of Centurion of the Marked

This skinned Lord of the Undead could bring zombies back to the fray as Magic's Universes Beyond reaches the barren post-apocalyptic Americas.

The venerable Fallout video game series is set to make a big splash this year, with a TV series making its debut on Amazon Prime Video in April, and a crossover with Magic: The Gathering to become part of its Universes Beyond line-up.,

The latest addition, Universes Beyond Fallout is set for release on 8 March, and will be primarily available in four Commander decks featuring some of the game’s iconic apocalyptic post-nuclear wastelands and characters.

Yahoo Southeast Asia has got its hand on a preview card from Fallout courtesy of Wizards of the Coast, the skinned card Centurion of the Marked.

What is a skinned card?

A skinned card is a card that already exists in the game, just with a different name tied to a theme, and in this instance, that would be the Fallout universe. That means Centurion of the Marked is essentially a card that's already in Magic: The Gathering – in this case, Lord of the Undead.

To put it simply, Lord of the Undead has been reprinted with a new skin and new name (thus the term skinned card) in a non-Magic: The Gathering IP set.

For one generic mana and two black mana, Centurion of the Marked is a rare 2/2 Zombie that gives every other Zombie creature +1/+1.

For one generic mana and one black mana, a player controlling Centurion of the Marked can tap it to return one other Zombie card from their graveyard to their hand.

Centurion of the Marked is quite a useful card if you have a Zombie tribal deck, since it is an anthem which boosts your other Zombies, but most importantly, you can use it to return any important Zombies that have ended up in your graveyard back into your hand.

Considering that most of the new Fallout cards will be found in pre-constructed Commander decks, this could also mean that Zombies may be a prominent tribal in one of these.

A guess might point towards the deck Hail, Caesar, since the Centurions are high-ranking officers in Caesar’s Legion from the Mojave Wasteland.

Of course, if you've ever played the Fallout series, you'll know that Ghouls are one of the creatures/factions you can find in the barren landscape that is post-apocalyptic North America... and Caesar's Legions aren't exactly full of them. They are, however, on point about the Roman cosplay, so it remains to be seen how the pre-constructed Commander Deck will take this theme into account.

Besides the undead-looking Ghouls (they're not actually undead in Fallout lore, they just look like zombies from radiation and mutation), we're definitely excited to see how some of the others (Super Mutants, Deathclaws, The Brotherhood of Steel etc) get treated in this Magic set.

Centurion of the Marked is also featured in an all-new Pip-Boy Showcase treatment, referencing the iconic design of the Fallout games' user interface. Fallout will feature both new and skinned cards with new treatments, which players can find in Collector Boosters.

Fallout will be available in four pre-constructed Commander decks, as well as Collector Boosters, when it releases on 8 March.
