Maira Mazar Talks TKO Victory At ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX IV

Brazil’s Maira Mazar scored a stunning third-round TKO win in her sophomore appearance in ONE Championship.

Mazar defeated South Korean Choi Jeong Yun in their catch weight mixed martial arts clash at ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX IV, a previously recorded event that aired on Friday, 20 November, from the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The Evolve MMA standout attributed her success to the fact that she never stopped grinding once COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.

“I’ve been training since lockdown every day. Whether I have a fight or not, I train hard,” Mazar said.

Not only does she train hard – she fights hard. From the opening bell on Friday, Mazar pressed the action with low kicks and used her boxing effectively.

Even when the two women closed the distance between them and engaged in the clinch, the Brazilian punished the much taller Choi with knees.

In the second round, Choi managed to land a few knees of her own, but Mazar again took control as she dragged the South Korean to the canvas.

Once there, she stayed busy both in half-guard and in side control, landing short, crisp left hands.

Mazar added that her success in those first two rounds happened because of her preparations at Evolve.

“Everything we trained – the [strategy] – worked like perfect,” she said. “I’m so happy.”

If she was proud of her work in rounds one and two, she must’ve been ecstatic about her performance in round three.

Mazar came on strong, walked through Choi’s knee attacks, outboxed the South Korean, took her back, and brought her to the canvas.

From there, the Brazilian mounted Choi and unloaded furious ground-and-pound.

“Here in Singapore, you cannot train jiu-jitsu now, but we were training with (a grappling) dummy – hard ground and pound,” Mazar said.

Her training partner – dummy or not – obviously helped because the referee stopped the bout with just 34 seconds left on the clock.

Not only did Mazar get the TKO victory, but she also got the chance to showcase her varied skill set.

The Brazilian also promised to be ready for whoever stands across from her next.

“Whatever ONE Championship wants to give me next, I will prepare. Me and the team together, we can prepare for everybody,” Mazar said.
