Man admits to undressing and molesting 13-year-old daughter thrice
SINGAPORE — While his 13-year-old daughter lay alone in the master bedroom, a man pulled down her shorts and underwear and molested her.
The 47-year-old Filipino did not know that his daughter was actually awake and had no idea what to do.
The incident marked the first of three times that the man sexually abused his daughter. Months after the first occasion, he sexually assaulted her again while she slept. Two days later, he brazenly molested her, despite knowing that she was awake.
The man, who is a Singapore Permanent Resident, pleaded guilty on Tuesday (17 March) to three counts of molesting a person under 14-years-old, with two other counts of molest on two other occasions taken into consideration for when he is sentenced.
The victim, who is now 16, and her father cannot be named to protect her identity.
The girl, her then-four-year-old sister and her parents shared a flat together with the family’s domestic helper. As the man had flexible working hours, he would pick the victim up from school while her mother was at work.
In November 2016, the victim was alone at home with her father and lay in the master bedroom. The man entered the room thinking his daughter was asleep and pulled down her shorts and panties. He then molested the girl, who was actually awake. She did not know how to react to her father’s action. After a few minutes, the man dressed the girl and left the room.
On 23 or 24 July 2017, the victim and her father were in the same room lying down when the father again stripped her of her shorts and panties. The girl was asleep.
The man then molested his daughter. When she did not react, the man then removed his jeans and underwear and rubbed his penis against his daughter. The girl had awoken by this time and the man knew that. He then went to the toilet and returned to dress his daughter before leaving the room.
On 26 July 2017, the victim and her father were both laying in the same room when the man told her to stop playing with her handphone. The girl decided to nap.
Although the man knew that his daughter was still awake, he pulled down her shorts and panties and removed his jeans and underwear.
He tried to position himself on top of the girl but found it uncomfortable. He then lay down next to the girl and rubbed his penis against her. He went to the toilet and returned to dress his daughter.
On each occasion, the girl felt pain and discomfort from the contact but did not report the matter to her mother as she did not know how to tell her. On the 26 July 2017 incident, the girl felt more pain than usual and confided in her school counsellor.
On 27 July 2017, the girl went to see her school counsellor and told her that her father had raped her. The school counsellor then alerted the Child Protective Service and the girl made the police report.
After the report, the Child Protective Service arranged for the girl to be removed from her parents’ care and placed in Grace Haven Home. She was later placed in the care of a foster family.
In June 2018, at the request of her mother, the girl was allowed to visit relatives in the Philippines during the school holidays. She has not returned to Singapore since.
The man will return to court on 19 March to be sentenced.
For molesting a person under 14, the man faces a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or caning, or any combination of the penalties.
