Man arrested for attempting to swim to Singapore illegally

A 39-year-old man was arrested for unlawful entry into Singapore on Tuesday, said the Singapore Police Force on Wednesday (22 November).

The Police Coast Guard (PCG) detected a floating object in the sea off Woodlands waterfront heading towards Singapore waters on Tuesday (21 November) at around 10.50pm, said a police statement.

The floating object was established to be a swimmer and the man was “swiftly intercepted” and arrested for unlawful entry into Singapore, said the police. Yahoo News Singapore understands that the man was swimming from Johor.

The maximum penalty for illegal entry into Singapore is a jail term of up to six months and a minimum of three strokes of the cane.
