A man in China who had a cockroach trapped in his ear for almost three days sprayed pesticide into his ear in a desperate attempt to remove it.

However, the dead insect remained stuck in his ear, and the man went to a hospital to have it removed. The insect was reported to be about 1cm long. By this time, the man’s ear had become swollen from the irritation and reaction to the pesticide.

The Chengdu Economic Daily reported that the cockroach crawled into the ear of the 60-year-old man in Chengdu on 1 February.

The man had tried every means he could think of to get rid of the pest, including toothpicks and tweezers.

A doctor at the hospital told the Daily that cockroaches seek warm shelter in cold weather and human ears fit the bill.

The best way to remove an insect from an ear is to drip mineral or olive oil into the ear to kill the insect.
