SINGAPORE — A 45-year-old man who repeatedly raped his biological daughter when she was 11 was on Thursday (14 October) jailed for 21 years along with 24 strokes of the cane.

The Singaporean culprit pleaded guilty at the High Court to two charges of rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration. Eight other similar charges were considered in sentencing.

His offences came to light when his wife, who is the victim's biological mother, found contraceptive pills and confronted him.

The man started abusing his daughter in 2017 when she was nine and in Primary 4, gradually escalating in his conduct – from molesting her while she was sleeping to sexually assaulting her.

The crimes would take place at least once a month when the mother and the victim's brother were out.

Shortly after the victim's 11th birthday in 2018, the man started raping the victim.

In order to prevent her from getting pregnant, he bought some contraceptive pills online in early 2019. He placed the drugs in a small plastic bag which he got from a previous visit to a clinic that was labelled "for cough".

When the man tried giving the victim the pills later, she told her mother about his abuse and passed the pills to her.

The mother then confronted the man, who confessed that he was worried as he may have ejaculated into the victim's vagina.

The mother then made a police report.

The punishment for rape of a minor below 14 is a jail term of up to 20 years along with at least 12 strokes of the cane, per charge.
