Manchester United needed extra time but progressed with a 1-0 win against FC Copenhagen in the Europa League on Monday night.

The best chances of the first half fell the way of the Danish side, though Mohamed Daramy couldn’t finish, while Mason Greenwood had a late strike ruled out for offside.

United finally started to grow into the game after the break and chances fell quickly in succession, but none could make them count—with Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes hitting the woodwork.

In extra time, Anthony Martial was bundled over in the box and Bruno Fernandes finally opened the scoring from the spot to send United through.

Here are the Manchester United player ratings from Stadion Koln.

Sergio Romero – 6. Didn’t have too much to do, despite all the chances Copenhagen had.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5. Hugely sloppy in possession and missed a few trademark tackles, too. Important block on Oviedo, though.

Eric Bailly – 7. Made a couple of vital blocks and interceptions. Subbed off in the second half.

Harry Maguire – 7. Solid first half with some good long-range passing. Mostly the same after the break, plus one nicely cynical foul on the counter-attack.

Brandon Williams – 7. Got forward well. Good dribbling in tight spaces. Two-footed passing kept the team moving. Vital tackle on Varela and a header almost off the line.

Fred – 6. Given the nod ahead of Nemanja Matic but had a mixed night. Good covering and tackling at times, but some poor passing at others.

Paul Pogba – 7. Strange game for Pogba. Half the time he looked the best player on the pitch. The rest of the time he was mis-hitting shots or being caught on the ball.

Mason Greenwood – 6. Had a good, low, right-footed strike ruled out for offside in the first half and hit the post with his left foot after the break. In and out of the game, though.

Bruno Fernandes – 7. Always alert and on the move to pick up possession. Great strike hit the post and another tested the goalkeeper as he tried to force the issue after the break. Scored the vital opener from the spot.

Marcus Rashford – 6. Offered himself out wide regularly, but in the box he made the wrong decision or got his contact wrong.

Anthony Martial – 8. Tireless runner, but nothing fell his way so he started to do it himself. Almost scored one from 25 yards, then another solo run was ended in the box. Won the telling penalty.
