'I don't really bother about what others think': Marcus Chin has a change of heart, reveals more about his secret girlfriend
The 70-year-old actor breaks his silence on a 10-year relationship, living together, and why love is crucial at his age.
Veteran actor Marcus Chin dropped the mention of a lover during his 2022 Star Awards acceptance speech but he chose to keep the details under wraps then.
However, in a recent interview with 8days for the Mediacorp drama I Do, Do I?, the "Comedy Nite" star has had a change of heart and is now more open to sharing the details of his long-standing relationship.
For starters, Chin and his partner have been together for more than 10 years and they’re living together. The report by 8days suggested that his girlfriend is in her 60s.
According to Chin, they met while he was filming the singing competition show Golden Age Talentime.
The 70-year-old actor said, “She was an audience member who came to watch the live filming of the show. We bumped into each other at the washroom, and we exchanged numbers and started talking.”
Chin felt that there’s nothing to hide since “we’re already so hide” (sic) and said he doesn’t have a problem introducing her to others.
“In fact, many people already know of her, including my friends in showbiz. We're always together during gatherings with friends as well. I don't want to be too secretive about it. At this age, I don't really bother about what others think.”
Love is important
Chin was previously married to Taiwanese singer Murong Ying, but had an affair with his then-personal assistant Eileen Cheah in 2009.
When asked by 8days if he had a fear of falling in love again because of his relationship history, the actor dismissed it, saying, “I don't think there's anything to be scared of.”
He added, “When you have feelings for each other, then just start [dating]. Don't reject the fate that comes knocking at your door. As much as we need to eat, we also need love.
“There isn't a person who doesn't need love. It's not good to be lonely. Of course there are a lot of single people who will emphasise that they're happy alone, but are they really?”
And yes, love is important to him as he feels that a person “needs companionship and love”.
“I wouldn't say I'm very romantic, but I think it's important to be thoughtful and caring, so the other person can feel it,” he shared.
