Martin Nguyen Plans To Finish Kim Jae Woong Anywhere The Fight Goes

Former ONE Featherweight World Champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen is hoping to recapture his old form against “The Fighting God” Kim Jae Woong at ONE: REVOLUTION on Friday, 24 September. However, he knows the South Korean will be looking to prove his own point in their highly anticipated scrap.

“He’s [doing] the right things, [trying to] take out a top-five contender. The most important thing I have to say to him is be careful what you wish for,” Nguyen said.

“The Situ-Asian” is coming off a loss against Thanh Le, who knocked out the former featherweight king and took his belt in the process. So there’s no questioning why the Aussie is fired up for his meeting with Kim.

That said, he isn’t looking at this bout any differently than previous ones – including his World Title defenses.

“The hunger is still there — the hunger to better myself every day and be the best I can be in the Circle,” Nguyen said.

“This is what I do. This is what I live and breathe, and [I’m going to do] anything possible to do the right things to get that title back.”

Kim, meanwhile, is coming off an impressive win over Tetsuya “MMA Fantasista” Yamada and will be looking to ride his wave of momentum into the top-five rankings.

“Good on him. A lot of athletes like to get the easy fights before they get to the top,” Nguyen said.

“It makes sense, right? I [have been] the most dominant champion for the last three years. They see me as a stepping stone to get them to that fast track into the World Title shot, and I’ll welcome any challenge.”

Against “The Fighting God,” Nguyen will face a man with tremendous power and aggression. However, the Vietnamese-Australian also believes Kim won’t present any new challenges come fight night.

“From his last few bouts that I’ve seen, I see he is a pressure fighter. He likes to come forward. He likes to throw his punches and kicks,” Nguyen said.

“The main thing I want to focus on is to not get sloppy and not allow him to have any free shots. A lot of athletes who aren’t used to that style tend to fold and allow him to just tee off on their bodies or their head.

“I just have to stay on point, stay sharp, strong-minded. I’ve faced many athletes like him before, so it’s nothing new. It’s just another challenge ahead of me.”

This challenge, Nguyen hopes, will lead to a shot at his previous World Title. And he’s determined to get past any contenders standing in his way.

“If my objective is to get this title back, every fight counts. So whether it’s Kim Jae Woong, Garry Tonon, or Koyomi Matsushima, no matter who it is, it’s a must-win,” Nguyen said.

Moreover, “The Situ-Asian” is willing to gain victory on 24 September by any means necessary.

“Whether I take [Kim] down, whether I stand and strike with him, I will make sure that I’m always first. As I said, whatever it takes to get my hand raised,” he added

“For me, I’d like to knock him out, but I will finish the fight wherever it may be possible.” Catch Nguyen vs. Kim when ONE Championship returns with ONE: REVOLUTION on Friday, 24 September. Catch all the action live and for free by downloading the ONE Super App.
