Martin Nguyen Plans To Finish Kim Jae Woong Anywhere The Fight Goes
Former ONE Featherweight World Champion Martin âThe Situ-Asianâ Nguyen is hoping to recapture his old form against âThe Fighting Godâ Kim Jae Woong at ONE: REVOLUTION on Friday, 24 September. However, he knows the South Korean will be looking to prove his own point in their highly anticipated scrap.
âHeâs [doing] the right things, [trying to] take out a top-five contender. The most important thing I have to say to him is be careful what you wish for,â Nguyen said.
âThe Situ-Asianâ is coming off a loss against Thanh Le, who knocked out the former featherweight king and took his belt in the process. So thereâs no questioning why the Aussie is fired up for his meeting with Kim.
That said, he isnât looking at this bout any differently than previous ones â including his World Title defenses.
âThe hunger is still there â the hunger to better myself every day and be the best I can be in the Circle,â Nguyen said.
âThis is what I do. This is what I live and breathe, and [Iâm going to do] anything possible to do the right things to get that title back.â
Kim, meanwhile, is coming off an impressive win over Tetsuya âMMA Fantasistaâ Yamada and will be looking to ride his wave of momentum into the top-five rankings.
âGood on him. A lot of athletes like to get the easy fights before they get to the top,â Nguyen said.
âIt makes sense, right? I [have been] the most dominant champion for the last three years. They see me as a stepping stone to get them to that fast track into the World Title shot, and Iâll welcome any challenge.â
Against âThe Fighting God,â Nguyen will face a man with tremendous power and aggression. However, the Vietnamese-Australian also believes Kim wonât present any new challenges come fight night.
âFrom his last few bouts that Iâve seen, I see he is a pressure fighter. He likes to come forward. He likes to throw his punches and kicks,â Nguyen said.
âThe main thing I want to focus on is to not get sloppy and not allow him to have any free shots. A lot of athletes who arenât used to that style tend to fold and allow him to just tee off on their bodies or their head.
âI just have to stay on point, stay sharp, strong-minded. Iâve faced many athletes like him before, so itâs nothing new. Itâs just another challenge ahead of me.â
This challenge, Nguyen hopes, will lead to a shot at his previous World Title. And heâs determined to get past any contenders standing in his way.
âIf my objective is to get this title back, every fight counts. So whether itâs Kim Jae Woong, Garry Tonon, or Koyomi Matsushima, no matter who it is, itâs a must-win,â Nguyen said.
Moreover, âThe Situ-Asianâ is willing to gain victory on 24 September by any means necessary.
âWhether I take [Kim] down, whether I stand and strike with him, I will make sure that Iâm always first. As I said, whatever it takes to get my hand raised,â he added
âFor me, Iâd like to knock him out, but I will finish the fight wherever it may be possible.â Catch Nguyen vs. Kim when ONE Championship returns with ONE: REVOLUTION on Friday, 24 September. Catch all the action live and for free by downloading the ONE Super App.
