CORRECTION: This article has been corrected to indicate that the stall in the Mei Yuen Restaurant has its license suspended, and not the entire establishment as previously reported.

A stall in the Mei Yuen Restaurant along East Coast Road has had its license suspended for two weeks by the National Environment Agency (NEA) after cockroaches were found on its premises.

According to an NEA notice published on Monday (30 April), the stall accumulated 12 demerit points over a 12-month period and was slapped with $800 in fines for two offences of failing to keep its premises free of cockroach infestations.

Regulations state that licensees who accumulate 12 or more demerit points over a 12-month period may have their licenses suspended for a period of two to four weeks, or cancelled.

The suspension of the stall’s license will stretch from 30 April to 13 May and all its food handlers will be made to attend and pass the Basic Food Hygiene Course again before they can resume work.

NEA will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone found to be in violation of the Environmental Public Health Act,” the notice said.
