Michael Stuhlbarg Joins Julia Roberts In Luca Guadagnino’s ‘After The Hunt’

EXCLUSIVE: Oscar-nominee Michael Stuhlbarg is set to join Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming feature After the Hunt, which will be released in theaters next year. The film stars Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri and Andrew garfield. Luca Guadagnino is directing the film from a script penned by Nora Garrett. Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum are producing alongside Guadagnino via his Frenesy banner. Imagine Entertainment’s Karen Lunder will executive produce alongside Nora Garrett. The film is targeting a summer start-of-production.

After the Hunt is an intense dramatic thriller about a college professor who finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil levels an accusation against one of her colleagues, and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light.

The project has been a hot property going back to when Imagine landed the script and began developing it at the top of the year with every A-list director and star chasing it. Once Guadagnino and Roberts were attached, Amazon moved fast to land the pic and given the star power already involved it’s no surprise top talent like Garfield are now filling out the ensemble.

Stuhlbarg is best known for his role in the Coen Brothers’ A Serious Man, which earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture. Other film credits include Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name, Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape of Water, Miss Sloane with Jessica Chastain, Marvel’s Doctor Strange, and more. On the television side, he can be seen in Boardwalk EmpireTransparent, Season Three of Fargo, The Looming Tower, for which he earned an Emmy nomination, Dopesick, for which he earned a second Emmy nomination, The Staircase, and Your Honor. Stuhlbarg is also two-time Tony Award nominee, for his stage performances in Martin McDonagh’s The Pillowman (for which he also won a Drama Desk Award) and in Peter Morgan’s Patriots, currently on Broadway. Michael Stuhlbarg is represented by CAA and Viking Entertainment.
