Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth finalise divorce after eight-month marriage
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth‘s divorce has been finalised, five months after the pair announced their separation.
Cyrus and Hemsworth first met while filming the 2010 Nicholas Sparks film The Last Song, before embarking on a decade-long on-again, off-again relationship.
On 23 December 2018, the couple tied the knot in a small ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee, Cyrus wearing an exquisite wedding dress by British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood.
After eight months of marriage, it was revealed that Cyrus and the Hunger Games actor had decided to split, with it later being reported that Hemsworth had filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences”.
On Tuesday 28 January 2020, a Los Angeles judge finalised the divorce between the celebrity couple, according to court records.
In January 2019, Hemsworth opened up about his one-month marriage to Miley Cyrus, describing their wedding as a “really nice, beautiful day”.
The 30-year-old spoke about their relationship while attending the G’Day USA Gala in California, an event honouring prominent Australian individuals from the worlds of entertainment, sports and culture.
While being interviewed on the red carpet, the Independence Day: Resurgence star explained how their partnership evolved over the course of 10 years.
“It doesn’t feel like a lot’s changed, on one hand, but on the other hand it does. It’s all great, I’m loving it,” he said.
Following her split from Hemsworth, Cyrus dated reality television star Kaitlynn Carter, before becoming romantically involved with her current partner, singer Cody Simpson.
In October 2019, the Bangerz singer publicly responded to critics who said she had moved on too fast.
“I know the public feels invested in my past relationship because they felt like they saw it thru from the beginning. I think that’s why people have always felt so entitled over my life and how I live it because they’ve watched me grow up [sic],” Cyrus wrote on Twitter.
“But I am grown now and make choices as an adult knowing the truth/details/reality. People only ‘know’ what they see on the internet.”
Cyrus previously denied cheating on Hemsworth following speculation, stating: “I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating.
“Liam and I have been together for a decade. I’ve said it before and it remains true, I love Liam and always will.”
