The mother of a Georgia firefighter who went missing last week and was found dead in a car alongside his one-time girlfriend had sounded the alarm that her son was possibly in danger before the tragic discovery.

In the days preceding the announcement that her son was dead, Jane Kuhbander wrote on her Facebook page that her son Chandler Kuhbander may have been “coerced” by his former girlfriend Raegan Anderson and that “he is believed to not be with her willingly.”

Kuhbander and Anderson were found dead in Cocke County, Tenn., on Sunday, June 30, the Hinesville Police Department in Georgia said in a statement.

The two firefighters, who were also previously involved in a long term romantic relationship, had been missing since June 24. Their bodies were found together inside Anderson’s black 2017 Ford Focus, police told local WJCL.

Hinesville Police Chief Tracey Howard told the outlet, "I don't believe that the investigation in any way is yielding an idea that whatever happened involved anybody else other than the two that were found."

Kuhbander and Anderson were in a relationship for about seven years, dating back to when they were in high school, Jane Kuhbander told WJCL last week. They recently broke up, however, and Anderson was arrested last weekend after spotting her ex-boyfriend on a date with another woman at the Olive Garden and then disrupting the date before keying his car in the restaurant's parking lot, according to an incident report obtained by WJCL.

Kuhbander was last seen leaving a gym and getting into Anderson’s car on Monday, June 24, his mother told WJCL. Kuhbander’s mother told the outlet she last spoke to her son that Monday morning when he told her Anderson had been continuously calling him and threatening herself.

"He was telling me she was blowing up his phone, and he said that she had threatened that she was going to commit suicide," Kuhbander’s mother told WJCL. "And, it's not the first time that she's done it."

On social media, Kuhbander continued to plead for help finding her son throughout the week, clarifying her belief that “Raegan is not a bad person.”

“She is a great firefighter,” the mother wrote in a June 27 social media post asking for help finding Anderson and her son. “She is lost, unstable and [losing] what she has known for 7 years. They were/are not good for each other. She is making bad decisions because of this. They are not a couple but he cares deeply for her. We don’t want anything bad to happen to either one of them, we want them home safe and sound.”

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation tells PEOPLE its investigators are investigating the circumstances that led to Kuhbander and Anderson's deaths.

"The bodies have been sent for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death and to be positively identified," a spokesperson with the bureau told PEOPLE. "At this time, the investigation remains active and ongoing."

A GoFundMe has been set up for Kuhbander’s family, who says Chandler was “sadly and unexpectedly taken” from them.
