Monster Hunter 4 and Pokemon X & Y top Japan Game Awards winners

Amidst the madness that is the Tokyo Game Show, Japan’s Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association has announced this year’s winners of its annual Japan Game Awards. At the top of the heap was a tie between Monster Hunter 4 and Youkai Watch for the Grand Award.

Monster Hunter 4 earned its spot at the top because it has “gone beyond the borders of a game and created a new communication, has introduced a new system in every series,” according to the release, but Youkai Watch also deserved a top spot for “revitalizing an ancient Japanese character” and for being great entertainment for both kids and adults.

The real winner, though, might be Pokemon X & Y. While the games missed out on the top spot (the Grand Award), they won three other awards: the Award for Excellence, the Japanese Product Award, and (perhaps most importantly) the Sales Award.

The full list of award winners is as follows. Congratulations to all the winners!
