The publisher of Mobile Legends said on Tuesday (29 March) it was investigating claims that players from a Singapore esports team made allegedly discriminatory remarks against their opponents.

The incident, which took place in the first week of the third season of MPL SG (Mobile Legends Professional League Singapore), saw Team OP members being caught on Malaysian Geek Fam player Nik "Dominus" Aqieff's stream making the remarks as they played a ranked match against each other.

Geek Fam compete in the MPL MY, Malaysia's professional Mobile Legends league.

MLBB publisher MOONTON Games told Yahoo Esports SEA that "investigations are still undergoing".

Meanwhile Team OP's Instagram page posted a statement that the organization was conducting an investigation into the incident and that it does not "tolerate any form of discrimination".

Dominus also posted a Facebook Story stating that he has met with Moonton and is "hoping for a fair punishment".

In the video (around the 3 hour 35 minutes mark), with Team OP's side in the lead, OP's Wendall Sean "DarA" Tan started using all chat in the game, and used an allegedly discriminatory remark against his opponents, who were primarily Geek Fam players.

His teammate, Goh "Ryeb" Wei En, further chimed in by calling their opponents "trash", and when Dominus replied by calling him "poor", Ryeb and other OP players made references to their opponent's "mother".

Things escalated even further when OP's Jackie "PAAA!" Lee then typed another allegedly discriminatory remark which referenced religion, with Ryeb also contributing similar remarks.

One of Geek Fam's players quickly typed "we live bro", however, Ryeb ignored the warning and made a last remark. The chat became silent after that.

Geek Fam eventually lost the match.
