Musical Horror-Thriller ‘Art of a Hit’ Acquired by Giant Pictures for North America (EXCLUSIVE)

Giant Pictures has acquired North American rights to “Art of a Hit,” a musical horror-thriller directed by Gaelan Draper.

The film stars Ryan Donowho (“The O.C.”), Charlie Saxton (“Hung”), Tim Jo (“This Is Us”), Rob Raco (“Riverdale”), James Earl (“White Men Can’t Jump”), Allie MacDonald (“What/If”) and David Valdes (“Last the Night”).

Set for streaming release in the fall, “Art of a Hit” follows a ’90s rock band frontman grappling with irrelevance. An eccentric producer invites the band to his French chateau to record, where they encounter unexpected challenges.

The film features an original soundtrack by Jets to Brazil. Draper and Saxton co-wrote and produced the project under their Dewey and Bug banner.

“’Art of a Hit’ takes everything we love about the late ‘90s and early 2000s rock scene and jams it into a wildly creepy castle in the most beautiful place on earth: Dordogne, France. It’s funny, scary, messed up and honest — a story about what it’s like to be in a band and the insane fears of trying to make it as an artist. If you love late 90s rock, if you loved being in a band, you will love ‘Art of a Hit,’” Draper and Saxton said.

Rel Klein of Giant Pictures negotiated the deal with Saxton and Draper. Klein said: “We are thrilled to be bringing the film to audiences across North America later this year.”

Giant Pictures, an independent distributor, manages streaming content and operates Drafthouse Films and is the distribution and technology partner of the Tribeca Festival.

Dewey and Bug focuses on unconventional storytelling in independent cinema.
