Nancy Sit saddened by Patrick Leung's passing

4 Sep – Veteran actress Nancy Sit recently expressed her regrets for not being able to see director Patrick Lung one last time before his death.

As reported on Mingpao News, the 64-year-old actress, who played the role of Ma Bik Shan in Patrick's 1969 hit movie "Teddy Girls", revealed that her performance in the movie had helped her rise to fame.

"Patrick Lung is a representative of the '60s era. His films were very forward and advanced," said Nancy, who played an unwed 16-year-old mother who sold drugs in the movie, who was eventually sent to the juvenile detention centre.

The actress revealed that her parents had opposed her involvement in the film, as not to taint her good girl image.

"But Patrick urged me to do the movie, saying that it's a cautionary tale and that the character will challenge my performance as an actress," said Nancy, adding that the movie had also won the director various awards.

She also disclosed that Patrick, who moved to New York after quitting filmmaking, had always come to visit and support her whenever she had a performance in the United States, though the last time they saw each other was at a film event in Hong Kong last year.

"At the time, I asked him to dinner but he was very busy. In the end, we didn't get to see each other and sadly, we will not be able to anymore," said Nancy.

Nancy also confessed that she didn't know about Patrick Lung's illness and lamented, "It was so sudden. I am very saddened with the news."
