The actress, who is also a mom to daughter Zuri, 6, shares that comparing motherhood to acting was a humbling experience.

“I had to humble myself,” she says. “Being an actress, although difficult, there’s nothing more important or as challenging than motherhood, and we need to be real about that.”

Naughton-Lewis continues, “It’s not all, ‘Yay! I had a baby and snapped back!’ I’m snapping back gradually, but it takes time. And it’s okay to be gracious to yourself, and it’s okay to say I’m just being patient and enjoying my season."

Naughton-Lewis also just celebrated her 40th birthday, which she notes was “on an amazing trip with amazing friends,” including Danielle Brooks and Teyonah Parris.

When asked how the start of this new decade feels, the actress jokes, “40 feels like the biggest blessing, but it also feels like a little joint pain. When I got off that yacht, I was like ‘ow.’”

The mother-of-two then says, “In all seriousness, I do feel powerful, but I also feel empowered by the fact that I’ve been able to do what I said I want to do, do what I love. My parents, my family, everyone has supported me. I’m living my dream, and I’m 40 years old!”

Ahead of welcoming the baby, Naughton-Lewis shared with PEOPLE her excitement about this major moment for her family.

"I am looking forward to seeing this baby's cute little face and how it will be the perfect blend between my husband and me," the actress shared in February. "My daughter is especially happy to be getting a younger sibling, so I'm excited to share this joy as a family."

Naughton-Lewis said she felt "so grateful" upon learning her family is growing, noting she was "still on a high" from the couple's romantic April wedding at the St. Regis Buckhead in Atlanta.

"When I found out, I was shooting a movie and still on a high from my wedding, so it felt like the perfect way to start a new chapter with my hubby! I wrapped my two pregnancy tests in pretty tissue paper and put it in a cute little gift bag and told him I had a belated birthday gift for him," Naughton-Lewis revealed. "It was such a special moment."
