NBCU Global TV Distribution Strikes Content Deal With Nascent Asian Streamer Begin

EXCLUSIVE: NBCUniversal (NBCU) Global TV Distribution has struck a content deal with Asian streamer Begin.

According to Begin, this is the first time that NBCU content will be legally watchable in Pakistan, as the U.S. major’s movies and shows have historically been pirated via Pakistani telecoms and internet service providers.

The nascent streamer, which is headquartered in the UAE, backed by Z2C Limited and available in Pakistan, has picked up movies including Oppenheimer, The Holdovers and Kung Fu Panda 4 as part of the multi-year deal. NBCU TV series in the deal include Ted, Based on a True Story and Peacock’s Tattooist of Auschwitz adaptation.

“We know our audiences crave fresh and exciting content, and with exclusive access to NBCUniversal’s biggest hits and new releases, we can’t wait to satisfy their appetite with the best in entertainment,” said Jonathan Mark, Begin’s CEO and Co-Founder.

Belinda Menendez, President & Chief Revenue Officer of NBCU Global TV Distribution, added that the “vast content portfolio” will “entertain viewers in Pakistan for many years to come.”

Begin launched recently and is currently only available in Pakistan, although there are plans to roll out further into the MENA region. It struck a one-year deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment earlier this month for the likes of Men in Black: The Series, The Smurfs, Venom and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The streamer also has sports deals in place with the Professional Golfers Association, Saudi Premier League, and All Elite Wrestling.
