Negredo: It was a tough game

Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo admitted that Getafe made life difficult for his side, following their 1-0 victory at the Mestalla on Sunday. The Spain international, who is on loan from reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, netted the game's solitary goal from the penalty spot in the 71st minute. And Negredo has praised Getafe for producing a committed performance which very nearly resulted in the match ending in a goalless draw. "Our aim was to win and it was a very difficult game against an opponent who set themselves out very well," said Negredo. "During the final stretch of the game they were keeping things very tight in their area. "We couldn't really create any clear chances in the second half and though we kept putting crosses into their area, we couldn't get on the end of them. "They worked hard, plugged all the gaps and spaces, particularly through the first half and into the second, up until we managed to edge ahead. It was very hard for us." Commenting on the decision which led to his spot-kick, Negredo added: "It was a play that worked out well for us, the referee whistled in our favour."
