Thirteen-part thriller "Edha," set in the worlds of fashion, modeling and music, is to become Netflix's first original series made in Argentina, and is being readied for a 2017 debut.

Title character Edha is a young fashion designer and single mother and, at a crucial moment in her career, falls for a male model who is, it emerges, obsessed with a revenge plot.

Argentinian director Daniel Burman, who has been feted with awards from prominent international film festivals, created the series and will direct for the online streaming service.

Best known for comedy dramas, he won Sundance's NHK Award for 2002's "Every Stewardess Goes to Heaven," the Berlin International Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize for 2003's "Lost Embrace," and was nominated for an Argentinian Academy award with 2010's "Brother and Sister."

Netflix had previously commissioned Spanish-language series "Club de Cuervos" and the Brazilian Portuguese "Narcos," boosting its profile in Mexico and Brazil respectively.
