Matt Rosser was a part of the success of the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA D-League. The lanky and athletic forward however will not have a chance to contribute to the franchise’s success in the PBA as he was dealt to Talk ‘N Text before the start of the 40th Season of the PBA.

Rosser walked into the Meralco Gym on a rainy Wednesday afternoon to greet his new teammates and watch as they played a practice game against the Bolts.

“I was surprised when I heard about the trade but I was very happy,” Rosser said. “I’m honored to be a part of this team with the tradition they have and their winning ways.”

The Tropang Texters lost to Meralco in the tune-up game 85-76 but they played without Jimmy Alapag and Ranidel De Ocampo who are both in South Korea for the Asian Games. Danny Seigle and Kelly Williams also sat out as they just arrived from the United States. Jayson Castro joined them in shoot-around but not in the game as he is still nursing a knee injury.

The rookie eagerly watched from the sideline and took in as much as he could. He listened in on the instructions of assistant coach Nash Racela who took over temporarily from head coach Jong Uichico.

“For me, as a rookie, I’m not worried about playing time especially with this team. Whatever they need from me I’ll do,” Rosser added. “If it’s one minute or 20 minutes, whatever, I’ll be ready to take whatever chance I get or whatever opportunity and take advantage of it.”

After a sub-par season based on their standards, Talk ‘N Text retooled their lineup with the inclusion of Rosser and Jay Washington. The flagship of Manny V. Pangilinan’s PBA fleet is targeting a complete turnaround in the upcoming season and Rosser is eager to be a part of it.

“I still don’t know what my role would be in this team but all I know is that I’m going to be learning a lot from the veterans. They have so many guys here who have played in the league for so long,” Rosser said.

“I’m looking forward to getting better everyday with their guidance.”
