Nintendo president implies NX fits 'home console' category

Though the Nintendo NX is shrouded in secrecy, comments from Nintendo of America president suggest that whatever the envelope-pushing ambition of its next offering, the NX can still be called a home console.

Asked to comment on the perceived challenge posed by other consoles -- the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One -- Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime outlined the Wii U's global appeal.

"We've also said publicly that we are already hard at work on our next home console and that's another element we'll be talking about much later," he told the Wall Street Journal.

The in-development NX has been previously associated with a Quality of Life, non-wearable technology approach to health and fitness which was publicly proposed in January 2014, a time in which Nintendo was under scrutiny after the Wii U's launch.

The company is known for its unique and often unexpected approaches to console design, with recent examples including the dual screen portable Nintendo 2DS and motion-controlled, newcomer-friendly Nintendo Wii.
