Non-Fiction Agency Indox To Launch Specialist Strand Focused On Repping Projects For UK & Ireland With Visions Du Reel Title ‘Mother Vera’

EXCLUSIVE: Non-fiction agency Indox, launched by former Dogwoof exec Luke Brawley, has boarded Visions du Reel competition title Mother Vera and will use the pic to launch a new boutique service focused on representing non-fiction and progressive media works in the UK and Ireland.

Brawley’s Indox provides international festival management for non-fiction projects. The new UK and Ireland strand will consolidate efforts on certain “bold documentary” projects in the UK and Ireland to stop them from “slipping under the radar for audiences domestically.” Brawley has said the strand will initially focus on homegrown titles.

“Similar to the situation abroad, domestic non-fiction distribution presents its own set of challenges. Due to changes in viewership since the Pandemic and more risk-averse practices by distributors, bold documentary films run the risk of slipping under the radar for audiences domestically,” Brawley said.

“We will be taking on titles that, like our international slate, push the boundaries of the form and as a UK-based organization, we will be focusing on homegrown productions. We are delighted to offer this new service, providing an alternative avenue focused on reaching British & Irish audiences via the nation’s extensive festival circuit.”

Premiering at Vision du Reel in Competition and shot in black and white, Mother Vera is the first feature film from directorial duo Cécile Embleton and Alys Tomlinson. The film is produced by Laura Shacham for the UK outfit She Makes Productions. The film follows the life of an unorthodox young nun. The synopsis reads: After 20 years as a monastic, Vera faces deep inner conflict. Now, she must confront her past and trust her instincts to find the liberation she desires.

“We’re really excited to be working with Luke and Indox to bring Mother Vera to festivals in the UK and Ireland,” said Sahcham. “The opportunity to work in a bespoke collaboration with Indox, as their inaugural film in this strand, is the ideal partnership for our film — as is Luke’s energy and approach. We’re looking forward to the journey ahead.”

Brawley will be attending Sheffield DocFest and Docs Ireland with his slate.
