SINGAPORE — Members of the Merdeka Generation (MG) who have yet to receive their MG cards can now enjoy discounts at all NTUC FairPrice stores, as well as Foodfare and Kopitiam outlets.

Those eligible can present their identification card, PAssion Silver concession card or letter of MG eligibility to enjoy them, said NTUC FairPrice, NTUC Foodfare and Kopitiam in a joint release on Monday (8 July).

The practice will be in place till the end of the month when all Merdeka Generation members would have receive their MG cards.

Previously, these discounts were granted only to customers who presented their MG cards. NRICs were not accepted as a form of verification since age is not the only criteria for MG eligibility.

FairPrice said that it had received feedback from about 100 shoppers since the launch of the initiative on 3 July, requesting that the supermarket chain allow Merdeka Generation members who have yet to receive their MG cards, to use their NRIC to qualify for the MG discount.

Those in the Merdeka Generation can enjoy a three per cent discount on Wednesdays applicable at more than 140 FairPrice outlets islandwide. They include FairPrice Shop stores, FairPrice Finest outlets, and FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets.

They can also purchase hot coffee or tea at a reduced price of 50 cents at all NTUC Foodfare and Kopitiam food courts and coffee shops on Wednesdays.
