On Sunday, July 26, actress Olivia de Havilland died at the age of 104 at her home in Paris due to natural causes, her publicist confirmed. The silver-screen icon left behind a distinguished film career, including her famous role as Melanie Hamilton in Gone with the Wind, sister-in-law to Vivien Leigh's Scarlett O'Hara. Her parts in 1949's The Heiress and 1946's To Each His Own, both of which earned her Academy Awards, were also highly celebrated, as were her contributions to The Snake Pit (1948), Hold Back the Dawn (1941), and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938). De Havilland is also remembered for standing up to film studios with a momentous legal case that protected actors from having studios arbitrarily extend their contracts.
