ONE Championship Lets Fans Play Matchmaker
The fate of the four athletes who’ll be competing in the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix semifinals will not be decided by ONE Championship’s matchmakers. Instead, that power will belong to the organization’s global fan base.
After the quarterfinals of the historic tournament conclude at ONE: EMPOWER on Friday, 3 September, fans will get to vote on who they want to see face each other in the next stage of the competition.
The quarterfinal matches, which are set to take place at ONE: EMPOWER, are as follows:
Denice Zamboanga vs. Seo Hee Ham
Alyona Rassohyna vs. Stamp Fairtex
Meng Bo vs. Ritu Phogat
Itsuki Hirata vs. Alyse Anderson
Voting will take place on onefc.com beginning 3 September and will run through 10 September. The results will be revealed during ONE: REVOLUTION on 24 September.
Also at ONE: EMPOWER, ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan defends her strap against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu queen Michelle Nicolini in the main event, and kickboxing great Anissa “C18” Meksen makes her promotional debut against Cristina Morales.
Ushering in the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix are two additional bouts – a Muay Thai clash between rising star Jackie Buntan and promotional newcomer Daniela Lopez, and a Grand Prix alternate bout between former two-time ONE World Title challenger Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi and Brazilian standout Julie Mezabarba.
