Parang-wielding robbers break into Selangor speaker’s family home

Five men armed with parang broke into Selangor Assembly Speaker Hannah Yeoh's parents’ house in USJ Subang Jaya, said Yeoh via her Twitter account.

The Subang Jaya assemblyman tagged Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar @KBAB51 in the post.

Yeoh said the masked intruders tied up her father and brother.

"Five masked men with parang just robbed my parents' house in USJ. Dad and brother were tied up," she said on Twitter today about 12.20pm.

In a Facebook post, Yeoh said: “5 masked men with parang just robbed my parents' house in USJ about 10am this morning.

“These men wore gloves and ski masks. Dad and brother were tied up. My mother, maid, grandaunty and niece were all forced to cover their heads with a blanket while the men ransacked the entire house for about 15-20mins. I am thankful that my family members were not injured. It is crime such as this that remains the greatest concern of Malaysians.”

Reacting to her post on Twitter, Khalid told Hannah her family had to lodge a police report first before police could initiate investigation.

“Make a report first,” he said after attending the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation meeting today.

Yeoh later told The Malaysian Insider through WhatsApp that a police report had already been lodged.

"Yes police report done with team from IPD Subang Jaya USJ 8. Statements taken. Police came to the house," she said in her messages.

In her Facebook post, she added that police should use the force's resources more efficiently to fight crime.

"It is crime such as this that remains the greatest concern of Malaysians. We want to see a safer Malaysia, and that requires efficient utilisation of our police resources in combating real crime," she wrote.

Khalid is known for using his Twitter account to instruct police officers to carry out investigations, especially over the use of social media regarding posts that are allegedly seditious.

He had called for investigations against Lawyers for Liberty co-founder Eric Paulsen regarding a tweet questioning Friday sermons by the Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim), and against other individuals, mostly politicians and critics of the government. – March 29, 2015.
