Paris Modes TV's Sophie de Champsavin and Natalia Grgona: 'Sheer fabrics were everywhere at Paris Fashion Week'

As fashion week came to a close in Paris, Paris Modes TV journalists Sophie de Champsavin and Natalia Grgona took a moment to share their impressions on the season's runway presentations, upcoming trends and the top models to follow.

What are the top trends as seen at Paris Fashion Week?

New romanticism is a key trend for the summer season. But far from playing it sweet and sentimentally, designers displayed a refreshingly new modern take in the clothes and a more futuristic vision, emphasized by metal and vinyl details...

Transparency was everywhere! In lace and fishnet, slits and fabric-cuts... Organza and organdy were the preferred body-revealing fabrics. The touches of transparency were always delicate, never vulgar. Lingerie styling made an appearance through an elaborately crafted slip dress featuring embroidery and sequins at Saint Laurent, a much more delicate, pared-down and minimalist version at Dior, sensual and lacy at Chloé and Céline and sporty at Stella McCartney and Kenzo.

We also observed a lot of geometric prints. Checkes, squares, stripes and strokes marked several items giving them structure and character. The trend was evident at Stella McCartney and Hermès as well as in the square cut-outs of Mugler's evening dresses.

Mixes of materials and all kinds of prints seen at Kenzo, Chanel, Carven and Lanvin in various approaches to patchwork.

A complete palette of colors was on show. Vibrant, rich and deep colors electrified the collections. Yellow, orange and saffron dominated the podiums, each collection presenting at least one item in these tones. The designers most inspired by color were Dries Van Noten, Elie Saab, Chanel, Giambattista Valli, and Chloé with an exceptional rainbow-colored palette.

And of course, accessories galore. Designers opted for flat shoes such as mules for next season, while thick rubber-soled sandals were seen at Louis Vuitton and sequined ones at Giambattista Valli. Chanel showcased an original pair of LED-equipped footwear.

Which label created the biggest buzz?

Christian Dior stood out from the crowd with an extraordinary setting featuring a hill composed of 400,000 blue delphiniums. The collection was also revealed to a star-studded audience which included Rihanna in the first row.

Chanel made headlines with its theme of a luxury airport setting, set up under the glass roof of the Grand Palais and Rick Owens presented a unique runway concept that was very performance-like with some models taking to the runway upside down.

The Courrèges collection was highly anticipated for its new designer-duo Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant. Alexander Wang's last collection for Balenciaga after three years of artistic direction was also a highlight of Paris Fashion Week.

Jacquemus, the winner of the LVMH award kicked off the Parisian proceedings with a poetic collection that took place in a hangar in the middle of the 19th arrondissement of Paris in which he also took to the catwalk accompanied by a white horse.

Who are the new models to watch?

Ruth Bell was definitely a model to follow with her shaved head and her rebellious look, absolutely gorgeous at the opening of Lanvin's show. Other young faces of the season include Mayka Merino, Ysaunny Brito and Lineisy Montero, the star of the season!

Which show had the best atmosphere?

We loved the Lanvin show for its mysterious feel, intimate atmosphere and all the options for women.

Saint Laurent and its cube of lights and the excitement that Hedi Slimane's collection generated was a key moment of PFW.

Lastly, Kenzo unveiled a large-scale catwalk setting that included advancing platforms with groups of models on each one.
