A man suffered life-threatening injuries after police say a bus hit him in Brampton on Sunday.

Peel Regional Police said it received a call around 6:20 p.m. to respond to a pedestrian who was hit by a transit bus near the intersection of Steeles Avenue and McMurchy Avenue.

Paramedics performed life-saving measures on an adult male at the scene before transporting him to hospital, Peel paramedics said.

The bus driver remained on the scene, police said.

Steeles Avenue was closed to vehicles eastbound from McMurchy Avenue and westbound from Main Street, police said shortly after 7 p.m., adding the closures were expected to last for several hours.
