Plans to make golf course public underway

The Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) is likely to meet relevant parties this month to discuss on giving up one of its golf courses.

According to the media, SICC president Tay Joo Soon sent a three-page circular to SICC members yesterday, which stated, "We will be meeting Singapore Land Authority, NTUC and Ministry of Law later this month, and hope to reach common ground on the final demarcation of the leasehold land."

In February this year, the media reported SICC was initially slated to lose two 18-hole courses after the lease ends in 2021. Following an appeal by the club's committee, the government renewed the lease for one of the courses at its Bukit site near MacRitchie Reservoir till 2030.

However, the other course will be made public, and will be managed by the NTUC.

This is to allow members of the public access to golfing facilities once the Marina Bay Golf Course (MBGC), which is open to the public, is phased out for redevelopment in 2024.

Located near Tanjong Rhu, MBGC will reportedly be redeveloped for commercial and residential purposes. It is currently managed by NTUC Club and is Singapore's only 18-hole golf course open to the public.
