PNoy ready to face impeachment over DAP

President Aquino delivered a speech at the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals’ Grand Breakfast.

President Aquino said he is confident the Disbursement Allocation Program (DAP) could stand on legal ground, saying he is ready to face any impeachment complaint if the fund's misuse is proven.

“Sulong nila (ang impeachment) kung sa palagay nila tama sila pero kaka-basa ko lang sa Konstitusyon merong authority sa savings to put to other uses. Basta nandoon sa ating budget,” Aquino said Wednesday.

The President dismissed claims that the DAP was used to bribe lawmakers to vote for the conviction of former Chief Justice Renato Corona.

“Bakit di tignan kung kailan ito (DAP) na-release. May na-impeach si Ginoong Corona. Ang releases kung tama ang tanda ko October. So meron bang bribe after the fact?”

He also reacted to his critics calling him the “pork barrel king”.

“Tinanggal ko na naman yung kakayahan ko na ma-mudmod, binawasan ko. Walang namilit sakin niyan, walang nagturo sakin niyan, walang nag-insist, pero ginawa ko. So marami na akong ginawa, tapos tatawagin nila akong pork barrel king.”

He added, “Medyo, sa totoo lang, executive ang gagastos ng national budget, napaka-ingat natin kung paano gastusin dahil kailangan natin mapagtanggol at any time kung sino man ang kritiko na tama ang pag-gugol ng kaban ng bayan.”
