Pongsiri PK.Saenchai Muaythaigym Has Eyes on ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title

When 29-year-old Pongsiri PK.Saenchai Muaythaigym of Thailand returns to the ONE Championship ring in Bangkok, he will be looking to make a statement.

The 4-time Muay Thai World Champion wants to make a case among the elite at bantamweight for a shot at the ONE World Title, and the only way to do that is to put together a spectacular performance in his next outing.

Fans will get to witness Pongsiri take on former WBC Super Lightweight World Champion Sean “Clubber” Clancy of Ireland in the main event of ONE: A NEW BREED II, an event previously recorded from Bangkok, Thailand which is set for broadcast this Friday, 11 September.

Speaking ahead of his next matchup, Pongsiri expressed his confidence at bantamweight, and wants to prove his mettle among the division’s best talents.

“This is the weight class I want to be in,” Pongsiri told ONE Championship.

“I’m most comfortable with it in terms of forward movements and weapons. I want to prove to myself that I can become a champion in this weight class.”

Against Clancy, Pongsiri faces a man known for his toughness and knockout power. Clancy boasts of a professional record of 43-20-1, with over half of his victories ending by knockout. To say he is a dangerous opponent for Pongsiri is an understatement. In fact, Clancy is considered a dangerous opponent for anyone.

Clancy knows how to use his size and length to his advantage. But despite Clancy being the bigger man, Pongsiri understands what to watch out for heading into the matchup. He and his team have crafted a solid game plan to counter anything Clancy brings into the ONE Championship ring.

“He is a little bigger than me, but his strikes are not very strong. His strikes are not to be very worried about. It should be his punches that are dangerous. I am determined to walk forward and approach him from round one,” said Pongsiri.

“My weapons’ strength is great. I have great experience, I do more forward approaches, and I do shin kicks and elbow strikes. I plan to make him tired, and I expect to knock him out with my elbows.”

ONE: A NEW BREED II was a closed-door, audience-free event previously recorded from Bangkok, Thailand. Aside from the compelling main event, fans can look forward to a plethora of incredible contests, including a showdown between Thailand’s Superlek Kiatmoo9 and Tunisia’s Fahdi Khaled, as well as the debut of PBA Thailand Champion Supergirl Jaroonsak Muaythai who took on Argentinian Muay Thai Champion Milagros Lopez.

Pongsiri is excited to claim victory in this next outing, because he knows it will bring him one step closer to his ultimate goal of becoming ONE World Champion.

“It would be great if I were to win because it would be another step toward becoming a ONE World Champion. I’m determined to become the champion,” Pongsiri concluded.

Watch the previously recorded ONE: A NEW BREED II this Friday, 11 September, at 8:30 p.m. Singapore Standard Time (SGT) on meWATCH or by downloading the ONE Super App. Also, Channel 5 will provide a same-day delay at 10 p.m. SGT.
