Growing up, one of the most special times of the year for me as a kid, aside from Christmas, was National Day which falls on 9 August. I always felt a sense of pride seeing the Singapore flags displayed outside homes, and I’d try to catch the National Day Parade on television, especially the fireworks display.
Writing this issue’s cover story on the Istana and its rich history left me wondering why I’d never visited this grand palace. So, I’ve decided to head down to the next Istana open house on 30 July, and hopefully go on one of the guided tours. Would anyone like to join me?
And with Singapore’s 52nd birthday just around the corner, this issue’s investment spotlight is on the local market. Given its status as a safe haven, many foreigners continue to buy up residential properties here. Read more on page 26.
