Putrajaya accepts rulers’ statement on 1MDB, says Rahman Dahlan

Putrajaya has taken note and welcomed the statement issued by the Conference of Malay Rulers asking for a complete investigation into the 1MDB controversy, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said today. The local government, housing and urban wellbeing minister echoed Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's remark earlier that Putrajaya welcomed in good faith the contents of the statement. Zahid had assured that the government is taking proactive measures to address concerns raised by the Malay rulers over the issue. The rulers council on Tuesday had urged for swift investigations into the matter, and for wrongdoers to be punished. However, Abdul Rahman said the latest statement was no different from the rulers council's previous statements on current affairs. "Before this, they had issued statements about the current trends of stoking racial tension and challenging the constitution," he told The Malaysian Insider. "They had also expressed their worries in the past about people questioning the position of Malay rulers, Malays and the Malay language," he added. The rulers council's statement comes as 1MDB sits on a RM42 billion debt, and also amidst allegations that some state funds were transferred into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal accounts. Najib has so far spurned calls for him to resign while investigations are underway on the issue. Yesterday, former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that the onus was on Najib to solve the 1MDB issue as soon as possible. – October 8, 2015.
