Queen Elizabeth's funeral: State flags at S'pore government buildings at half mast
SINGAPORE — State flags at all government building in Singapore are being flown at half-mast on Monday (19 September) out of respect for Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in London.
In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said, "Today the world bids farewell to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, at her state funeral in London.
"Her Majesty was a symbol of hope, stability, and continuity. She was a true trailblazer of her time, and will always be remembered for her deep sense of duty, devotion and contributions to the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, and to the world."
President Halimah Yacob and her husband Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee will attend the state funeral, accompanied by officials from her office and the foreign affairs ministry.
'Left a significant mark on Singapore's history'
The Queen died at the age of 96 in Balmoral Castle in Scotland on 8 September. With her death, her eldest son King Charles III became the British monarch and head of the Commonwealth.
PM Lee had earlier paid tribute to the Queen on Facebook on 9 September, saying “Her contributions to the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, and indeed to the world will be recorded in history, and she will always be remembered fondly as a great world leader.
"Her Majesty also left a significant mark on Singapore’s history and our longstanding close relations with the United Kingdom."
In his post on Monday, the Prime Minister also sent his deepest condolences to King Charles III and The Royal Family, Britsh Prime Minister Liz Truss and the British people.
"Rest in peace, Your Majesty," he said.
