Rajasthan: Renewed Hope In Sachin Pilot Faction After Captain Amarinder Singh's Resignation

There is renewed hope amongst the Sachin Pilot-led faction of Rajasthan Congress over Chief Minister (CM) Ashok Gehlot accommodating them in the government following Captain Amarinder Singh’s resignation as the CM of Punjab.

Apparently, many believe that Gehlot may no longer be able to postpone the process and certain changes are being forecasted after the 15-day long ‘Pitru Paksha’ during which undertaking any new initiative is discouraged.

There have been growing demands for an expansion or reshuffle in CM Gehlot’s cabinet, along with appointments in the state commission and boards as well as the reconstitution of the party’s state unit.

In fact, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of Rajasthan Ajay Maken and also Sachin Pilot held separate discussions over this issue with Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on the day after Captain Amarinder Singh stepped down as the Punjab CM.

“Through Punjab, the Congress high command has conveyed that it can act tough even against top leaders toeing their own line,” a source from the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) was quoted by the Times of India.

Maken had earlier said that changes would have taken place in the state cabinet if it were not for Gehlot’s ill-health. The Rajasthan state government had survived a scare in July-August 2020 after former deputy CM Pilot and his 18 loyalist MLAs rebelled against the incumbent and camped in Haryana for almost a month.
