Ramon Gonzales submits Liu De Li Ge Ri Hu in the second round

From the moment Ramon “The Bicolano” Gonzales threw his first high kick, which echoed off the walls of the Jakarta Convention Center, it was clear the Kyokushin karate Asian champion meant business.

The 30-year-old Filipino flyweight was determined in his bout at ONE: TOTAL VICTORY on Saturday, 16 September, and finished off Inner Mongolia wrestling champion “The Little Squirrel” Liu De Li Ge Ri Hu at 1:52 of the second frame, courtesy of an arm-triangle choke.

Both competitors took the majority of the opening round to feel each out, with Gonzales looking for a match-ending strike, while Liu searched for the elusive takedown.

Following a low blow, which briefly halted the action, the pair began to give the Indonesian fans what they came to see. Liu’s takedown attempt was thwarted, allowing Gonzales to snare top position. “The Little Squirrel” looked to pull off a flash guillotine choke before “The Bicolano” popped his head out.

Once round two hit, however, it was all Gonzales. The second-degree Kyokushin karate black belt surprisingly secured an early takedown, and quickly advanced to a full mount. Liu found himself on the wrong side of an arm-triangle choke moments later, and was forced to tap almost immediately.
